The Philippines!

Not sure if anyone is still looking at this as I haven't updated it in a million years, but here are some pictures.

Yekyong and I went to the Philippines in January-February 2008.  We spent our time on the island of Palawan, which is mighty jungle-y and somewhat off the beaten track.

Boston

We continued the trip in Boston, where we dropped the rental car and did all the touristy stuff.

Yekyong on the USS Constitution.

The Freedom Trail, which takes you through historical Boston, ends at the Bunker Hill Monument, which...

...you can climb for a great view.

But your legs feel like jelly after coming down 294 steps.

A side trip to Hah-vuhd.  (Harvard)

We finished with a trip to a couple of harbor islands which were a nice getaway.

New York City

We started, of course, at the Empire State Building, but it was a terribly hazy day.  But a good view anyway.

New York Public Library.  Ghostbusters anyone?

The UN was a cool stop - technically leaving the USA.

Generic Times Square photo.

By the time we got our half-price tickets to Les Mis (www.tkts.org) we were starving.  So we popped into Carnegie's Deli for a massive sandwich.  This is HALF of one.  Les Mis, by the way, was superb.

We met up with my old pal Heather for a trip to MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) and some Cuban food.

Andy Warhol's soup cans.

After a very very very long journey back, we celebrated my jetlagged birthday in Korea.  She wanted it to say "Happy 37th Birthday Jeff" but this is all we got.  hehe

Washington, DC

The first couple of days were all about the three fat cats and shopping for clothes.  We did squeeze in a trip to Mount Vernon, George Washington's plantation home.

Nap time with Monday.

It was off to Annapolis for my nephew Adrian's birthday.  We took a stroll around the Naval Academy campus.

This was our first stop on our culinary tour of North America.  We went to an all-you-can-eat place for Chesapeake Bay blue crabs.  Mmmm... so good.  And Yekyong didn't mind getting down and dirty (which is a serious girlfriend test for me!)  We shipped some Old Bay seasoning to Korea along with our boxes of several hundred books.

Cheesy shot.  It was crazy hot and humid.

We did all the tourist stuff in DC.  The Museum of Natural History had a spectacular photo exhibit with some of the best animal shots I've ever seen.

The week in DC went by incredibly fast but we did manage to meet Keat and Dan for a beer at the Brickskeller, home of the world's largest beer selection (though they were surprisingly out of a lot of beers.)

Then we rented a car and drove to...

Philly

Then it was on to Philly, the city of brotherly love.  The main reason for visiting Philly was to see the King Tut exhibit.  That was spectacular!  It was incredibly well-done and they had all of the best items from the tomb of King Tut (minus the famous mask which doesn't leave Egypt.)  It made us both want to go to Egypt.

Independence Hall

Another hot day with Yekyong.

As part of our food tour, we had a cheesesteaks at Jim's.  We had to wait in line for about 15 minutes but it was SO worth it.  I've had sandwiches at Geno's and Pat's before (all 3 our Philly traditions) but Jim's was the best hands-down!  We were so hungry we forgot to take a picture.

From there we got a little lost on our drive to...

Upstate New York

We spent a few days with my Dad and Kay.  The weather was gorgeous and we were able to relax by the pool.  Very nice.

We went for a lunch cruise out on Lake George (Last of the Mohicans area.)

We spent a few hours at Saratoga Race Course where Yekyong, of course, won the first bet she ever made.  It was Nunnery, shown here holding on down the stretch.  He was about a 3 to 1.

After eating waaaaaaay too much, it was through Adirondack Park on to...

Ottawa

My good buddy Chris lives up there.  Here he and Yekyong are both towering over a very young, very short guard at the Govenor-General's mansion.

The mansion had a large park where royalty and dignitaries from around the world have planted trees.  Most of large, majestic creatures worthy of the Kennedys, Queen Liz, etc.  Here's a Korean tree but it looks more like a Charlie Brown tree.

Yekyong enjoyed the very fast, very convertible EOS.

Sorry...

Sorry I've been so lax about updating.

It's vacation time!  On Thursday I'm off to the States with my girlfriend.  The Plan:  Washington DC, Philadelphia, Ottawa, upstate NY, Boston, then New York City.

I've also renewed my contract so I'll be staying at KNUE (Korea Nat'l University of Education) for another year.  All in all, it's a darn good job.

Also, I've finally gotten around to joining facebook.

And I read Harry Potter, but not before my silly girlfriend somehow thought it was a good idea to tell me the ending.  Grrr...

Eddie's getting bigger and bigger.
